Healthy Travel Surrey is a coalition of community groups from across the county. It exists to help Surrey’s decision‑makers and community organisations take practical, evidence‑led action that improves everyday travel, strengthens local economies and supports healthy, thriving places.

Why we exist

Local leadership on transport is harder than it should be: inbox bombardment, aggressive opposition, safety concerns, gaps in local economic evidence, and memories of poorly delivered schemes all push leaders toward caution over action.We change that dynamic. We’re calm, professional, non-partisan, and evidence‑led. We don’t ask individuals to stand alone; we help convene power, align stakeholders and build the shared case for investment and reform. With up-to-date data and narrative around health, prosperity and placemaking, we help absorb conflict and keep debate grounded in common values.

What we do

Narrative: reframe transport around health, safety, prosperity and place.
Evidence synthesis: bringing credible local data to the table (air quality, health, high street vitality, safety, etc).
Stakeholder alignment: connect community, health, business, schools and accessibility advocates around shared priorities.
Conflict absorption: maintain constructive, proportionate debate and avoid polarising frames.
Delivery support: focus on what works, what’s fundable, and what residents will support.

How we'll deliver a better transport future for Surrey

Our strategic priorities fully support, and are designed to complement, the direction set out in Surrey County Council’s Local Transport Plan (LTP4). LTP4 provides a strong long‑term framework; our focus is on helping create the conditions for delivery by bringing evidence, alignment and community support to the table. The priorities below reflect that shared ambition and are intended to make practical progress easier for everyone involved.

The Surrey Transport Pledge

Our strategic priorities fully support the direction set by Surrey County Council’s Local Transport Plan (LTP4). They’re not promises of delivery, that sits with the county, but a clear, practical statement of the outcomes candidates want to champion and support. The aim is to show alignment, encourage progress and help create the conditions that make good delivery easier.

What candidates pledge

Support delivery of safe walking, wheeling and cycling routes
Champion bus reliability and affordability; protect key routes
Support Vision Zero to reduce serious road injuries
Ensure development, plans for good, sustainable transport, not gridlock
Encourage use of tech to reduce bottlenecks and improve traffic flow
